A Trailblazer in Sri Lankan Women's Golf

A revered amateur champion, Pin Fernando became the first Sri Lankan member of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews in 1960. His dominance on the course earned him multiple Sri Lanka Amateur titles and two All-India Championship wins. He was posthumously honored with honorary life membership at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC), marking his enduring legacy.

In 1969, Pam Fernando became the first Ceylonese lady captain of the Royal Colombo Golf Club, breaking barriers in women’s golf. She won the Sri Lanka Ladies Amateur Golf Championship three times and represented the country at the Queen Sirikit Cup. Her win at the Sri Lanka Ladies Amateur Golf Championship in 1989 is listed in the 2001 Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest woman to win a national title. She also authored the centenary histories of the Royal Colombo Golf Club, the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, and the Sri Lanka Amateur Championship, preserving the sport’s legacy for future generations.

Their children, Dilrukshi, Tirusha, and Priath, have all carried the torch.
